Mitel Mobile Extension Release 1.0
Mitel is pleased to announce the availability of Mitel Mobile Extension.
Mitel Mobile Extension enables a Mitel 3300 Integrated Communications Platform (ICP) or Mitel SX-200 Integrated Communications Platform (ICP) user to link their desk phone with an internal or external PSTN-connected phone (i.e. a cell phone or wireless handset). This is known as twinning. When the user’s desk phone rings, the twinned phone will ring simultaneously. Users now only need to manage and publish one contact number, providing a truly integrated mobile and desktop experience.
Mitel Mobile Extension extends some of the most popular PBX features to this twinned device, providing mobile employees with office-like PBX telephony features, regardless of their location or telephone device.
Traditionally, enterprise cell phone users have had exceptional mobility, but little or no participation in enterprise communication services. In fact, other than the ability to forward calls to a cell phone, enterprise phones and cell phones have been two separate islands of communications. Mitel Mobile Extension unites these two domains through a single number that enables mobile workers to receive all of their calls regardless of their location or telephony device.
Any telephone, including a cell phone, can be linked to the user's desk phone, and this will act as an extension of the corporate PBX. This is known as "twinning".
The user is always accessible, whether in the office, at home or on the road. The result is that users avoid missed calls and gain personal productivity. Employees can be more efficient and spend less time chasing voice mail and playing voice mail tag.
Users have one common set of utilities inside and outside of the office to establish everyday communications functions, such as the ability to put a caller on hold or to transfer the call.
It has also become clear that the enterprise is increasingly concerned about the need to contain cell phone costs. Studies now suggest that almost 2/3’s of an enterprise’s cell phone calls are made in the office or at home. Mitel Mobile Extension helps to reduce these costs by enabling Mobile Extension calls that were answered in the office or home, on a cell phone to be handed back to the desk phone quickly and easily.
Mitel Mobile Extension is for any size customer using a Mitel 3300 ICP or SX-200 ICP.
Product Overview / Features & Benefits / Description
Mitel Mobile Extension enables a 3300 ICP or SX-200 ICP user to twin their desk phone with an internal or external PSTN-connected phone (i.e. a cell phone). When the user’s desk phone rings, the twinned phone will ring simultaneously. The device that answers the call first will establish a voice path with the incoming call and the other phone will cease to ring. Unanswered calls can be forwarded to voice mail.
Mitel Mobile Extension allows users on a Mitel 3300 ICP or SX-200 ICP to extend commonly used PBX features such as hold and transfer to their cell phone. This allows an enterprise’s increasingly mobile workforce to have access to Mitel’s rich telephony features and applications while they are on the move. When configured as a twin, the cell phone acts as an extension of the enterprise desk phone, providing a single number contact and an integrated mobile and desktop experience.
The application runs as a separate application blade on a Mitel 6000 Managed Application Server (MAS) and provides Graphical User Interface (GUI) based tools for administrators and GUI/Telephone User Interface (TUI) tools for end users.
TUI ports are used primarily to activate/de-activate the Mobile Extension service or to change the twinned device number. The Mobile Extension User web interface provides the same functionality. Therefore, the Mobile Extension users' preferences (web interface or IVR phone interface) will influence the required number of TUI ports. An average system has two TUI ports for every ten users.
One Number – One Voicemail
Users now just have to remember one phone number to contact you, wherever you are at any time or day. An incoming call will simultaneously ring your desk phone and your mobile extension. If neither device is answered, the call will forward to voice mail.
Easy Call Hand-off - Cell / Wireless Phone to Desk phone
Users who take a mobile extension call on their cell / wireless phone have the option to seamlessly transfer the call back to their desk phone, simply by pressing a button on their desk phone. Hot Desk users can go to any telephone on the network and transfer the call to the closest desk phone.
Hot Desk interaction
Mobile Extension can also be used to twin a device with a Hot Desk profile, such that even when the Hot Desk user is logged out, the mobile extension feature will still be active, making it an extremely useful facility for Hot Desk users that are in transit.
Acts Like Another Office Extension for Access to Powerful PBX features
Mitel Mobile Extension extends some of the most commonly used PBX features, such as hold and transfer, to the chosen twinned device, therefore enabling you to transfer a call from your twinned device to any other telephone number, internal or external to your organization.
Works with any Mobile Phone Technology or Service Offering
Unlike competitive offerings, Mitel Mobile Extension is not limited or tied to any particular cell phone manufacturer or service offering. Mitel Mobile Extension can be an internal extension, cell phone or PSTN-connected line, providing complete flexibility for your workforce.
User Interface
Mobile Extension users can choose between a web-based GUI or a Telephone User Interface (TUI) to configure their own individual settings. Users can activate or deactivate the Mobile Extension service and change the destination number at any time from any location.
