Announcing Mitel Teleworker Solution Release 4.1 Software!

The numbers of telecommuters and home-based workers are expected to continue rising over the next few years, according to market research. By 2009, 10 million U.S. workers, or 10% of the workforce, could be telecommuting.

Businesses have a compelling need (improved productivity, cost savings, increased employee retention etc.) to provide a flexible working policy to their employees.  More and more employees are being classed as "mobile employees".  These mobile employees often use a LAN connection when in the office, DSL or cable at home and wireless broadband when traveling.

G.729 Compression License Changes

Prior to Teleworker Solution Release 4.1, the Teleworker Solution used G.729 compression as part of its transcoding facility.  Teleworker Solution G.729 compression licenses are now a purchasable option in Release 4.1 software. Mitel recommends that where possible, compression is enabled within the IP Communications Platform.

Mitel recognizes that some customers will want to upgrade to Teleworker Solution Release 4.1 and will want to continue to use the compression facility.  To assist these customers, the compression licenses are available at a discounted price of $150.00 per pack of 5 until January 31st, 2007.

Existing Teleworker Solution customers who have an up-to-date software support license will have the opportunity to upgrade to Release 4.1 free of charge (labor is billable).

Customers that use G.729 compression and wish to upgrade to Teleworker Solution Release 4.1 will need to ensure that the relevant G.729 compression licenses have been purchased.

Questions & Answers

Q. My company is using Teleworker Solution Release 4.0 and is currently using compression.  How does this change with Teleworker Solution Release 4.1?

A. Customers wishing to use compression with Teleworker Solution Release 4.1 have to purchase the compression licenses. These are available in packs of 5 licenses for $150.00. The compression licenses are available as part of a special promotion until January 31, 2007.  After that date, compression licenses will be $340.00 per pack of 5.

Q. My company does not currently use compression – why would I use it?

A. Compression reduces the amount of bandwidth required for a Teleworker call.  The typical bandwidth for an uncompressed call is 100Kbps, compared to 50Kbps for a compressed call.  In most cases, compression can be enabled within the ICP and this is the recommended option.  However, if compression is not enabled or available within the Mitel IP Communications Platform (ICP), then compression can be enabled with the Teleworker solution.

Q. Is the upgrade to Teleworker Solution Release 4.1 free of charge?

A. For customers that have an active software support agreement, the upgrade is free of charge (labor is billable).  Customers that do not have an active software support agreement will need to purchase this before they can upgrade.  A one-year support agreement can be purchased for $250.00.

Q. Can I continue to use Teleworker Solution Release 4.0?

A. Yes, Teleworker Solution Release 4.0 can still be used.  Teleworker Solution Release 4.0 will continue to be supported until further notice.
